  • Hard Bags

    Hi all,

I have been really looking for a little additional storage room on the bike, and think a set of hard bags would be the perfect solution. What do you all recommend as the best bags to look for? I have seen a number of sets of the Vetter bags on ebay recently but they are for other bikes. Is it pretty easy to modify a bracket for another bike to fit the 11? I have also seen a number of universal fit hard bags that look very reminiscent of the factory Yamaha bags. Does anybody have any experience with any of these?

In the end, I do really prefer the look of the factory Yamaha bags, but because they are more model specific, they seem to be tougher to find on ebay. However, it seem that every six months or so, someone comes on here looking to sell their entire touring package and everyone talks them into sticking it in the corner of their garage just in case somewhere down the road they might decide that they would like a set. While this is probably sound advice, it seems kind of silly for someone that clearly doesn’t want these things to sit on them while some of us out here would really appreciate them. Any way, I guess what I’m saying is, if there is anyone with a factory touring setup collecting dust in the corner of their garage and would like the space back, I would love to have them and, of course, would pay a fair price. Or, if you really want to keep your options open, you could store your bags on my bike and if you ever decide that you want them back, call me and I’ll return them. I would also be interested in a set of Vetter bags or just the appropriate mounting brackets.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I bought mine off of Kijiji.

$500 for the entire set, including mounts, casstte deck, and some chrome trim pieces.

        Kijiji is Swahili for village.

It is also the name of an online classified ad site that has a seperate site for different cities.

Not sure if it is in the U.S.

        Google it for fun!

        Cheers,

Kijiji is a buy sell site, that belongs to ebay. It's more local, and has sites in all teh major north american cities.

            Hey Crazcnuk,

Thanks for the heads up on Kijiji. I had not heard of it before. I like the fact that it is local. For some reason I feel like I have a bit more recourse, in the case that a sale goes bad, if it is local. I do find a good deal of things on craigslist for that same reason.

Anyone ever try anything like these:

              Ebay item # 120184528287

I like to do a few week or so long trips a year, as well as use them for commuting and such. What do you all feel would be an appropriate size bag? The Vetters look like they would hold the most and I also like that they can be removed easily. I also saw TCs diamond plate bags and they got me thinking that I might be able borrow some ideas from them to make a set of these universal bags removable. It would seem that it would be nice to just unlock the bags and bring them into the motel room with you. Do you guys with non-removable bags miss this feature much?

No Problem. Although the only thing I have bought off Kijiji was two provinces over!

Not exactly local, but hey closer...

Here is something that the Golwingers use when we need more room. I suspect that you want more room for everyday use so you may not want this.

I'm not sure that I am ready for a trailer quite yet. I did find a set of old krauser bags and mounting brackets on ebay that look pretty easy to adapt. They seem to be the best of all worlds; classic styling and key removable. In my opinion, these elevens have sort of similar styling to the old BMW airheads so I think that they will look pretty good too. Thanks for all of the ideas.

As with most things, cheap is relative. I,m trying to get all the luggage mounted for under $100. I think i'm just about there too.

heh, my trailer is 26.67cuft, and has a gvwr of 1080lbs.

I use it behind the bike, lightly loaded, and can still use it behind the car for heavier loads.

It weighs about 100lbs empty, is insulated, lined and I hardly notice it behind me.

Fred saw the base of it, after the fender fell off... I guess it didn't like not having the box between the fenders keeoing them from vibrating. The other fender fell off on the way home, but I can't complain, I've been pulling it around since 1988.

Above is a picture of Shadow with the Krauser removable bags and trailer hitch. I also had a trunk, which was not removable, so I left it off except for long trips.
