  • rear pad change

Hi. Need to change rear pads. Do I really have to remove the rear wheel to do this, as outlined in Clymer manual or is it acceptable to just undo retaining screw and remove?

I did the splooge hole fix a little while ago. Worked a treat, but not before the pad wore out. Love this site. Scott J

You can change the pads without having to remove the rear wheel.

OTOH, depending on how long it has been since you had the rear wheel off for a new tire, you might want to take the opportunity to remove the wheel to grease the splines where the wheel fits to the final drive. This would also give you the opportunity to drop the final drive off and grease the final drive/driveshaft splines.
