  • Windscreens, Windshields and Fairings

    Hey,

I saw in Maximan's trip report that E. Liberty (Ed Darwin) had an interesting looking windscreen that might work well on an XJ1100.

My preference is for something that doesn't change the look of the bike too much.

    What are your favorites?

As a daily rider and on the highway, like the vetter fairing even in the summer.
When I started riding the SF with the vetter I took the wind shield off the G and have never wanted one on the hot rod.
I've got one of those "mini-fairing/wind shields for the LG sitting on the self. Will have to see how it looks etc. when I get to that point.

      Can't beat the Vetter!

But they do tend to change the look of the bike. There are bikini fairings available but there about as useful as an pockets in singlet.

I like the look and highway rides are a breeze!

I have a Slipstreamer S0-2 "Spirit". I don't get wet above the knees even in a hard rain if I keep moving. It's comfortable to sit behind. I don't like the mounting hardware. The vertical posts keep breaking as they are aluminum.

          Leon,

I was fortunate with my XS. When I bought it, it came with the fairing, trunk, and side boxes Yamaha sold years ago. Now some folks do not like the fairing as it is big! Bigger than the Windjammers.
I like the fact that the wind is moved around the bike, not into my face. And that I have a place for extras, such as a stereo, cargo pouches, etc.

Plus it adds a very distintive look to the bike! Not many bikes out there anymore with fairings. Heck not many bikes out there anymore that do not look like a hardley!

This link shows my bike with the fairing.

the front campartments are my lifesaver's holds extra tools, tire repair, 12v air pump, water bottle, sunglasses, parts, and the topcase and saddle bags kepted for other things, and saddle bags (vetter) come off in a snap and now the bike looks different, tho i don't do that much lately,

i've been in the naked camp, which keeps the street fighter look but the fairing actually is ideal for functionality, comfort, distance and safety, just mho

                I found that fairing:

But I can't figure out if it will work with the XJ11 - double-jointed handlebars...

The mounting kit is designed for bikes with round 7/8" bars. I'm not sure how you would work around that on the XJ1100. If there is a round place to mount to, it will work.

does the spirit do much on the highway?
