  • Advice Needed???

    Hi Guys

I recently spent a lot of money on my XS 1100 and thought it would sort out the problems.

I replaced a 4 Diaphragms in the carbs, Bought two brand new Pet Cocks and had the Carbs balanced. Replaced Oil, Oil Filter and air filter.

Today was the first time i took the bike out for a longish run to work about 50km.(31 miles)

At say 120km/h(74.56 mph) in top gear she runs smooth. Now when i stop and pull away she splutters at low revs and have to give her more accelerator to get her going. Also at low speed in traffic say in third gear she hesitates quite a bit you have to rev her to get her going. Oh yes on compression slow down she backfires quite a bit.

Does anyone have advice on how i can get her to run smooth please?

    Thanks

    Runnin' too lean.
Maybe turn your idle mixture screws out another 1/4-1/2 turn.
You may want to adjust your carb floats, but see what the idle mixture adjustment does first.

Have you sprayed around the intake boots with carb cleaner while it's running to check for vacuum leaks?

Be a good idea to check the pick up coil wires as they tend to show up at first intermittently at certain rpm s . The repair is explained in Tech Tips . To check them use an ohm meter at the TCI 4 pin connector . The top two wires go to one coil and the bottom to the other. At rest they should read about the same mine were around 760 as I recall. then manually by hand move the timing advance slowly all the way and back and forth and see if the ohms fall off or dissappear alltogether and that will show if the wires are needing repair.

          Balanced????

Sounds like they still are too lean like Prom said, and a good syncronizing is most important. I don't know about balancing though.
