It's about to the end of the riding season here in SD so started winterizing xs11's for the winter months. Everything was going fine till I got to one of my 79 xs11's. Started it up to warm it up good and run the carbs empty of my gas/Stabil cocktail. Started it up to run the carbs empty and all of a sudden the garage lite up like a SUPER NOVA! After I got part of my site back, still had burn't retina images of a circurlar object like a head light, and blew the main fuse. Pulled the bulb out and it vaporized the glass on one side and burn't a hole thru the rubber water proofing about the size of a dime. I thought OK no big deal went over to the parts rack and got another head light with bulb, installed and blew another fuse. After a "12 pack", well it seemed like quite a few anyway, one fuse did not blow. But now I have no head light, no tack rpm (just bounces a little bit) and no brake light. Neutral light and turn signals work. I do believe the "Super Nova" was cause by a malfunction of the alternator as I put a meter across the battery and when reved up I don't get anymore than 12 volts where I would typically get around 14 volts. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
