  • New carbs?

Yes, I know, been gone for a while, but this bike is killing me...

The question is concerning the carbs. I'm about fed up with them. Does anyone know of a more "modern" approach that might not cause so many problems? I'm talking like some brand new carb replacements that I can save up for this winter.

Nowhere near. MAC 4-2 and pods. But the old ones ran OK with stock jets, actually got really upset when I bought new ones.

Can be a pain to get em tuned right but several have done it.
        Good luck.

Think there are a few XSives in/near Reno.
Have you tried asking a local for help?

Drag came down before the Tahoe rally, but after not knowing what was causing my problems, it fixed itself?!? Ran good for a while, but when I went to try rejetting like others at the rally suggested, it didn't work. Went back to stock jets, over-rev problem is back . With all the other stuff I gotta take care of as well, this is really getting to me.

Wow, thanks for the great info Pat, looks sweet. eBay has the throttle bodies and injectors for good prices, and I can do the electronics no prob, hopefully I can figure the rest out . Only problem is the topic is so old none of the links work .

                  things of beauty

I know that a rack of four 30 year old Mikuni carbs can be a PIA to say the least. But when well tuned they are truly things of beauty.

Several years ago I was in the unenviable position of fighting untuned carbs. So what I did was step back, clear off the table (and my mind) and start from scratch....with a pencil. First I wrote everything down about the bike and used some jetting guidelines to arrive in the correct neighborhood for main and pilot jet sizes for the few mods I have. Then I meticulously cleaned each carb individually and assemblled them taking exceptional care to make sure float adjustments, etc. were the same for all. Installed them and hit the button. Voila!

Then I took the time to tune the carbs from top down as spelled out in the Factory Pro CV Carb Tuning Instructions found online. This took about a weekend to find all the final tuning sweet spots untill she pulled hard from idle to redline in all gears.

I have to tell you, ladies & gents, I have not touched my carburetors in several years other than to sync them when I do a routine tuneup.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Yea, found that and did some reading. But my question is this: instead of building the Megasquirt system from the ground up, why not get an aftermarket system for the GSXR? Chances are everything will fit better than the car parts. But I guess I'll do some research myself on that.

I wouldn't think a gixxer brain would bolt and go. You may, however, be interested in the MICROsquirt. It is smaller and comes fully assembled.

                          Might look into that...

But one of the points with the GSXR system is that I would be able to use bike parts (such as sensors) instead of car parts, if possible. And I didn't mean the stock box, I was talking about an aftermarket one that could be retuned to fix the XS profile.

But I will look into the Microsquirt as well. As I said, I have some time to research and work on getting parts, hoping to get it in this spring.
