    Hi guys, haven't been on the site for a while but its so great
    to know its still here.

    I'm having a problem with one fuse in my converted T.C.
    fuse panel. It has been fine up till a few weeks ago.

    I was merging into a major thourgh fare and my bike died-
    no signal lights, ignition nothing. I coasted until I was out of
    danger of being run over. I pulled the side cover off and found
    the 20 amp fuse that would be no. 4 starting from the front back
    blown. I failed to mention that when I got in a safe area I tried
    to restart the bike. Emergency flashers worked but no starter.

    I replaced the 20 amp fuse and it fired right up. When I got home I removed the side cover again to examine that fuse again--
    it was blown, but my starter would respond to the button. I
    completely have that fuse out and the starter and all electrical
    functions work.

    I looked in my factory manual and there isn't any picture of
    the OEM fuse box and what each space is for.

    Does any one have any suggestions as to what might be
    occuring?

    Thanks

    Hey Dodjh,

    I found this info on the wiring diagram, it doesn't say which fuse is near the front vs. back, but it does provide the associated wire colors, and it does tell which circuit they protect!
    The Wiring Diagram shows

    Tail=10A L/L =blue
    Head=10A Br/R-Y
    Signal=20A Br/Br
    Ignition=10A Wires R-W/Br
    You'll notice that the 20A fuse is NOT #4, but #3, the turn signals!

    However, there is another smaller MAIN fuse block under the LEFT side cover area, that you may NOT be aware of? And it could be causing problems? Or you might have a faulty ignition switch?

    Or...as Jerry has recently stated in another recent post, the sidestand switch could be going bad which could kill the bike. He posted a bypass description in it, a quick search should reveal it!

    BTW, what ever happened with your increased lighting quest?? Did you get the 80/100 watt bulb, or the clear lens conversion?
    Just curious, and wanting to add some info/feedback to folks.

      Hey T.C.

      You are so faithfull to respond to a SOS. I don't know why a 20

      is in where the 10 should be. This happened once before when

      I was trying to crank the bike. No neutral light or starter

      engaging. After discovering a blown fuse I replaced it with a

      new one and again it shorted out the fuse. The left side where

      the wires run between the motor and exhaust pipe was the first

      place I checked. I wiggled and moved them away from the

      exhaust pipe---then put a new fuse in and it didn't blow.

      The incident I mentioned in the thread happened after that.

      I will check ignition, sidestand and Jerrys' by-passing the

      side stand.

      Thanks for remembering our lighting discussions. I did put

      a clear lens conversion but not the 80/100 yet. The conversion

      change was very obvious and provided greater road light. I was

      attending some night courses at a local university and drove the

      XJ as much as weather permitting. It is good hearing from you,

      your advice is so valuable as is your willingness to take on

      someone elses problems.

      Till the next time,

        T.C.

        So far I have been unsuccesfull in locating Jerry's sidestand

        switch by pass. Is there a specific word to enter besides

        sidestand by pass switch?

            Kevin W,

            That is the thread T.C. was referring to. Thank you for finding

            and setting up a easy way I could retrieve it.

            Sincerely
