    Ugly Betty's split.

Like Markjs, I'm starting on Ugly Betty's carbs. Well, carb #4 definitely had it's problems. First noticeable dirty in float bowl. Sec ondly her float is split!..like 4 cracks across the bottom of the float. I couldn't get the "pilot jet?" out of the tower (Clymer's terminology), but after a night exposed, she gave it up after a bit of coaxing. Oh, it's Black and UGLY! Anyway, I'm guessing she exposed herself sometime in the rain and picked up some water and later froze? The pilot jet (completer with holes along the side) was kinda' gooey, and I think a night at room temp. dried it up some and after tapping on the housing, it slowly came out. My question is now where might I get new float(s)? MikesXS seems to be 650xs oriented? Can I order new floats there?..or where. I searched past threads and tech tips and can find no mention of float replacement; only carb kits. Would I be well off to go with plastic ones? Ugly Betty is 79' XS1100SF. thanks again guys.

    Hi Gyro,

If you stick to brass, you only need one, if you go to plastic floats you need to buy four!

I am not sure that the different types (brass/plastic) floats are a direct replacement, so I would stick where you are.

If it ain't broke, modify it!

If you can afford it go plastic. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I have yet to hear of anyone with a leaky plastic float. Something that cannot be said for the brass.

        Geno,
PM me with your shipping address, and I'll drop one in a box for you. I think the U.S.P.S. is still about $3.95 for two day service.
