Ever since I installed the Hydro-clutch, I have wanted an FJ brake master to match the nice looking clutch master. I finally got it done yesterday and love the way it looks. Notice in the bottom pic how much smaller the profile of the FJ is. Granted the old one is being held very slightly closer, but there really is THAT much difference in size. For a visual reference, the old one would be sticking over the tach face by about a half inch.

    "Looks nice...."

Now... just replace those screws(But you know this)
Put some grease or anti-sieze on the threads, first.
I kept a supply of those screws at the shop, as on older bikes, would often have to drill them out as they tend to electro/chemi-bond themselves in place.

      Hi 81XS,

Looks good...... But does it work?

All Jap master cylinders have the piston diameter cast into them.... many in inch sizes.

XS11 should be 11/16" which is almost unique to the XS. The FJ masters I have here are all 5/8"...... as are almost all twin-disc masters. Single-disc versions are usually 7/8". Late vehicles do use metric equivalents.

The reduced piston diameter will need extra lever travel to get the brakes to work. I tried this conversion and found it unacceptable. The lever came too close to the bar. If you have stainless lines, it may be OK.

I now have modern four-pot calipers, Steel lines........ and a 5/8 master.

Good info, thanXS Alan. I haven't gotten to take it for a spin yet. If the stopping power isn't there, I will have to go to something else. I really like the size of the unit though. Does anyone know the the partsnmore master compares?

          Hey Jessie,

The PNM master Cyl. works very well, provided you get the one that is the 16mm bore size for 2 calipers!

I'll tell you that I have a smaller MC from what is probably an XJ1100 designed for 1 caliper. When I had the OEM lines on it, it didn't provide enough pressure without having to pull the handle almost all the way to the grip like Alan eluded to. But once I put on the SS lines, it was more than adequate, and I don't have to squeeze it very far to activate the brakes, and I think it actually gives me a better feel! YMMV!

81, it looks good with those twin FJ cylinders, I wouldn't change them, if the braking is too spongy I'd go steel lines instead

If you go check at Ace Hardware, you should be able to get S.S. screws to replace them with. No rust, no sticking, and looks good.

PartsNMore m/c worked beautifully on my XJ turbo with braided lines. It's almost as heavy as an XS.

On mine I got a 14 mm Suzuki master cylinder. That's roughly 9/16 inch.
With SS lines it and proper bleeding it makes the brake feel almost like on a modern bike.
XS1100 and XS650- what do you need more?

Nice mod. Don't forget the goose neck pinch bolt either .... looks like a Mikes handle bar clamp ..... which bars are they? I hate the buckhorns on my SF.

Ah yes the buckhorns many people like them for the comfort factor. But, they are one of the things that make the bike look old and slow. JMHO

Mine are the superbike bars. They can be had from bikebandit for $15.
