I have all the parts to put both my XS's to OEM appearance.
If you count things that can't be seen (K&N air filters, Progressive springs, Dyna coils, etc.) then they won't be OEM.
My stock E exhaust is functionally sound (no pun) but has bad surface rust. My LG exhaust has a spot weld covering a hole in one muffler. Everything else is in great shape.
I saved the OEM parts for just in case they need to go back to OEM.Pat Kelly

The One I bought a month ago and luck as heck to find is a total perfect restoration start because it would not take a lot but I love it as is!!!
I have been fixing all electrical issues which mainly consisted of bulb replacement, and cleaning the fuel sensor.
Forgot to ask, Does anyone know what manufacturer of the aftermarket 4 to 1 exhaust on the bike could be?Last edited by BrianB; 09-30-2007, 11:50 PM.1980 XS Eleven Special

The 79 special I ride is pretty close, but I got it that way
Have been very slowly doing a 80 Midnight Special. Have just about all the parts.
Started off to referbish the exhaust. Right now exhaust is in 8 pieces. Used my plasma cutter to take it apart, ground off the old welds. Have some 1/8 inch thick tubing that is a perfect fit to replace rusted out pieces. When done should look like new.
Unfortunently took the engine out and the muff/foot peg brackets too, so looks like the frame is going to get done first, then engine and then I can get back to the exhaust.
When ever that gets done will take a serious look at another special I have to see if it's worth the time or maybe one of the standards

The restauration of my '79 2H9 has come to a stop because of missing parts.
Still looking for a complete stock exhaust, black rear cowl and the square left bracket that holds the headlamp (the 2H7 has a reflector in that place). The exhausts keep popping up on ebay but I am always to late. I have replaced the brake lines but still have the original ones. For tires I use modern ones as I do ride the bike.
