  • Cam chain tensioner

I am replacing the chain tensioner case with all new parts except the spring. None to be had. Does anyone know how long the spring is suppose to be, or how to test the original one to see if it should be replaced.

    Hey Trapper,

The parts fiche show that the spring should be at least as long as the plunger rod, if not a little more, but it's just to push the plunger in firmly enough to push against the chain/tensioner guides, then the plunger is locked in place of course, so there really isn't any big reason for the spring to be too beefy! And you might be able to get one at your local hardware/Lowes type store! Or just stretching the old one a bit!

Thanks TC I have not pulled it to look at it other than to replace the gasket and put in an over size lock bolt (po over torqued it) parts should be here in a day or so.
