  • Nippondenso Relay Needed - HELP!

    I have restored my 1980 XS11 Midnight Special. However, I cannot find a part that I really need. It's a large black plastic box that reads as follows:

    NIPPONDENSO
    ND FU257CE
    12.8V 85c/m
    27W X 2 +3.4W
    061300-5410
    JAPAN DOT

    Does anyone have any idea where I can find this part?

      When you say "large" how large and where on the bike does it go? I wouldn't call the flasher relay large.

        FU257 is the Yamaha signal light flasher relay.

        27 watts x 2 bulb. as opposed to the 4 bulb one for the 4-way flashers.

          Relay

          The relay is larger than a standard relay.

          It's about 2" x .75" somewhat rectangular shaped.

          Any input on where to find a replacement would be so helpful.

            The round tin one that arrived on my bike was not working so I SMACKED it with my hand ... been working great since :-)

              Hey Renniks,

              IF you'll go to BIKEBANDIT.com, look up OEM parts, Yamaha, 81, XS1100LH and Electrical page #2, part #24 you'll find this:
              24: FLASHER RELAY ASSY
              (ROUND BODY) [FLASHER RELAY ASSY] 25284-001 Invalid $92.01
              BB puts their own part #'s in place of OEM numbers!
              The photo shows a rectangular structure, but their description says "ROUND BODY" !?!?

              IF this is a full back to OEM type of restore, then that's what you'll need, but if this was a cosmetic and basically functional restore, and you don't care about having self cancelling signals, then you can get a simple 2 ...YES, 2 prong flasher unit and plug it in!

                  More Info on relay...

                  Thanks for the input guys. The relay that I'm looking for is for the turn signals. It is NOT the small round tin one that is directly under the seat above the battery. The one that I'm referring to is square & rectangular and is located by the fuse panel on the right side of the bike. It attaches to the battery tray housing which is also holding the fuse assembly. Make sense? If not please tell me how to post a photo. I've never done it on here and can't seem to figure it out. Photos always help so let me know and I can try it.

                  I did some checking and I believe that there is a small magnetized part of the relay that is sticking. one side of my signals blink but the other side only works if I tap on the relay. I'm thinking that the magnet (if that's the problem) is sticking because the bike was neglected for so long.

                  Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Also, if you want to see pics of the restoration...TELL ME HOW TO POST THEM!

                      Nope, but we're getting warmer. I could replace that part as well. What relay/part is that? I have seen it on my bike but what the heck does that one do?

                        That was the flasher canceling unit.

                        How about the flasher relay assembly?

                          Hi renniks,

                          If the relay successfully flashes one side, it should manage the other side too. I would have a good check over the system for odd-rated bulbs, slightly poor earths, etc....

                          P'raps even (temporarily!) plug the lamps into the feeds for the other side, to see if the fault swaps around; I think the relay is probably OK!

                          Most bikes don't like running the signals with the motor of (no charging!) Have you checked it with the engine running; Wouldn't normally ask that if you had not mentioned that you are just through a "restoration".............

                            Finally, I am posting some links to pics. Please check out the FLASHER RELAY ASSEMBLY near the fuse housing. That is what I need! Any ideas where to get one???
