My bike when I got it was all black ... everything except the tank, cowl and side covers. WOW .. it looked SICK. It just does not suit this bike. Check out my MSN space ( link in my signature) and check the photos under 1979 refurb. there's photos of the bike when i got it.

        Paint Job

My boy wants to paint his XJ Yamaha Yellow and Black. Yellow tank and side covers painted black in the middle with Yellow trim. And some engine covers painted Black. Don't know if he is going to paint fenders or not. Paint it ANY COLOR that YOU like, as long as you like it. What ever color you paint it someone won't like it, but as long as you are happy with it who cares!
        Thanks Tom

As long as you paint the rest of the pieces yellow then its fine. But if you paint just the tank then yes, its ugly as poo.

                  Depends on the yellow

Coincidentally, there's 3 yellow cars that park across the street from me. You'd think yellow was yellow but no. One is too acid-looking, one is too creamy-insipid but the third one is just right, like a farm egg yolk. I'd done both my boys bikes a nice yellow but then every bike dealer in Saskatoon started selling yellow bikes. So I painted my rig Astro Towtruck Orange instead.

the only thing that matters is if you are happy with the color. some will think it looks bad, some won't regardless of color. So if you really like yellow then go for it. Personally yellow is not my color. I'm leaning toward a blue.

I like yellow soooo much,,,, I had a yellow Gran'Torino station wagon. It got painted every shade of primer that Kmart had. In their parking lot, in Feb. The car eventually ended up rattle can black.

                            No, no, Mr Squib,
looks to me like Hammerhead simply used up the rest of the matte black BBQ paint he did his mufflers with. The grinning barefoot child is sitting there thinking "How soon will I be be old enough to ride this bike?"
