  • Carb schematic

    Hi Guys,
I am about to start a carb re build on my 79 XS1100, i have a custom 4-2-1- exhaust system fitted. I need to alter the jet size etc, that will be a task to try to find the bits !!, however, does any one have a schematic or exploded view of the carb and components as my book version (Haynes) is a bit confusing

    Have fun

    Hi Gary,

I've got both the Haynes and Clymers. They are very similar but I find it real helpful to use both at the same time. Usually one has something the other doesn't and vice versa.

My first rebuild was using Haynes and if you take it slow and one carb at a time you should be okay. Just make sure you have a nice clean area to work and lots of room to spread the parts. I also find that a digital camera helps when I'm taking something apart for the first time so I don't end up with a basket of spare parts at the end

      Hi Ernie,
thats for that. I have also noticed that one of the emulsion tubes has a belled end, the jet just about sits in !!, any idea how i can get this out? also, do the emuklsion tubes come out of the bottom or the top and how??
      So many questions

      Cheers

        gman,

Send me a PM with a fax number and I will be glad to send you the exploaded view from the Clymer manual.

The emulsion tubes come out through the top after removing the main jet. The mains actually hold the emulsion tubes in. They are delicate so if they do not just come out then you can use a small piece of wooden dowel and gently tap them out from the bottom. There will be a screw right next to the main jet. remove that and your pilot jets are down in that hole. They are also delicate and you will need a very thin, flat blade screwdriver to remove them. Once they are loosned, a toothpick works to lift them out of the hole. When you reinstall them, just snug them in.

Concerning jets, I would stick with real Mikuni jets. You can mail order them from Dennis Kirk and they are not too expensive. The number on the Mikuni jets represent CCs of fuel per minute under a certain pressure. Other manufacturers jets sometimes are not as accurate.

              Hi Mike,
for sure they can ship to Australia, my son in Adelaide bought stuff from them. They also sent him stuff & billed me in Saskatoon when I sent him a birthday gift.
              So yeah, I'm sure too.
