  • Vetter trunk 'bunkee'

I need one of the rubber mounts for the vetter trunk. I have one broken one.

I may have to buy a set of Vetter's website, but thought I would see if anyone had one or two from a broken set.

Also, I read somewhere that Platinum plugs are not recommended for these bikes? Just wondering why.

    G'day Craz

I've got three out of a set of four if no one else chimes in. They are used and pretty old but still quite functional, I bought a new set from the Vetter site, might be just as well to do the same?

Never heard of platinum plugs but I suspect anything other than the Vetter bunkees might interfere with the overall harmonics and you'll end up with a whistling top box or worse, annoying vibrations.

      lol, Platinum spark plugs.....

I found the little rubber nuts, used to connect the lowers to the fairing were available at Canadian Tire, here, for $1.25ea. I thought maybe there might be an available source for the rubber trunk mounts as well.

I would give your 3 a shot, if you don't need them. If one breaks, I would get two more strikes at it. Not sure what postage would cost from down under.

Right now, with one broken, the trunk shakes more than it should and I assume it will hasten the demise of the other 3.

        Platinum plugs

Well I have Iridium plugs holding my trunk in place and it's quiet as a mouse.

Like I said, if no one else chimes in, the three are yours.

And my Iridium plugs work great, easier starting and better fuel economy (not measured scientifically, but my fortnightly fill was three litres less than usual)

Can't comment on the power since they were installed at the same time I did the rebuild.

And they're cheaper than the platinum.

I only picked up the platinums because they were the only ones Canadian Tire carried that had the removable tips. But I read, somewhere here, that platinum plugs were not recommended for the XS's. Of course I saw that after I bought them.

If you go to Boschs website and do a search for "wasted spark", it will give you the lowdown on the platinum issue. I had problem when I put new Platniums in my Olds 88 with the 3800 v6. After about 200 miles I got a real bad miss, did some research and found that these plugs do not work well at all in the 3800. It also answered the problem of the miss in my 2.2 Cavalier. There is some very in depth information about this on the bonneville.com website. I switched plugs out in both cars and the miss went away. Go figure.

So it's just an issue that they may or may not work well in certain applications?

So far they seem to be fine in the bike, but I thought maybe they just won't last as long as other plugs.

I have a spare set of BPR6ES for when I need them.
