  • 79 XS11 special coils

Hello all, new to the forum and trying to restore my friends 1979 XS11 special that's been in storage for 20 years. I replaced the pickup coils with a new harness but the ignition coils look pretty bad and I believe he has tried using some from a different model bike but I'll never know. I have found some very useful information I have been trying years to find out on this forum and thank all who have taken the time to post. I think I'll have to do the 2nd gear fix (the reason it's been parked for so long) and doesn't seem to bad acording to the directions posted on the site.

My real question is what do you recommend for new replacement coils complete with wires as I want to make sure all is well on first startup? The bike is basically stock except for replacement 4 into 2 exhaust. It has 20K on the clock.

Test them and see what the numbers reveal. If however cash flow is not an issue i would replace them with after market units.

They have silicone all over them and they are cracked and mismatched so I want to just put on some good aftermarket but wondering what a good brand replacement would be with plug wires and boots that would be a bolt in.

I'm using Accel (spelling?)coils and they work well. Which ever brand you choose make sure they are the correct type for your bike. I don't have the info right in front of me but some one will chime in with it. Or do a search for Accel coils.

Thanks, that does look like a great alternative to shelling out the big bucks for what I believe is expensive yellow paint. Never been a big fan of Accel but I'll take what I can get sometimes.

Thanks for the help all and I'll check in with Mike.
