  • Carb, Ofcourse

Some how I lost my posted thread:

just put completely cleaned and overhauled carbs on my 79SF; the following happens:
    - will fire but will not idle smooth; running on 2 or 3 cyl
    - open the throttle, it will chocke then rev up with thrtll wide open
    - once underway, it will rocket from a standstill and keep going, until I throttle back and hold at any rpm for cruise
    - it will miss and hesitate
    - pull the choke, it will idle smooth, but at 2-3k rpm
    - on a hot engine, normally pulling the choke should kill the engine??!
    - i had another carb before this one and the bike ran perfectly
    - no prior electrical issues
    - I am pretty versed with these carbs and have had success
    - I am stumped now

    Advice please?!

Take a look at the carb holders, and make sure they are tight. You DID sync the carbs!?!?

Is it running on two, or is it running on three? Start it up, spritz some water on the pipes so you know. This will point you towards carb issues or electrical issues.
