  • Valve stems

On the tubeless rims Yamaha has their own steel valve stem. Any known failures with these over the years? Can a standard rubber valve stem but put in their place? My normal rule of thumb is changing valve stems every second tire change. (about once a year) Or are these 20 something year old valve stems still holding up fine?
    Thanks

    My rule of thumb.........

Jerry and everyone else, I like the type of stem that has the nuts that screw on them, especially on a machine that goes over 100 on alot of occasions. I had a old TT500 that had a slip in on the front tire and it blew out on a trail one day, now that would be a bummer on a highway at 80 or 90. To my knowledge my stems are original and have no problems.

I have never seen or heard of a valve stem failure, I did have liquid balencing compound come out of one once and changed it when i changed the tire, just to make sure.
