  • primary shaft bearings

    Hi all!
I'm wondering if the right side (clutch side) primary shaft bearing will come out without splitting cases. Can't find any reference in the clymer manual.

    Thanx!!

    Hey Ron,

IF you look at THIS IMAGE from the tech tips, you'll see parts # 10,11 shows that the "C" ring that keeps the bearing in place is on the INSIDE edge, away from the clutch basket and towards the primary shaft, so it appears that it would be removed from the inside, not from the outside/clutch side! Also, you would have to remove the primary shaft anyways, and you can't do that without splitting the cases anyways!

If yours is definitlely going bad, and you have to replace it, then you'll want to look at the starter clutch parts, and replace the pinch rollers and such as needed, since you can't work on it either without splitting the cases!
