  • XJ100 Charging system AGAIN

    Hmm
TAC died (charging system) and I haven't been able to ride all summer, I can't figure it out.

How can I TEST the rotor, stator, reg/rec and all the rest of the charging system on the XJ1100?

I've replaced the rotor, stator, reg/rec, brushes in the charging system (with used parts) already and I don't want to keep buying parts if I don't know whats wrong.

I just don't get it, I'm totally stumped!

I've read the wireing diagram, but is so damn complex for the XJ
I'm thinking I'm missing something simple.

is there a FUSE for the charging system someplace on the XJ100?

(its not behind the fuse pannel like the XS)

    Thanks in advance

    Hey Human,

Here are several links to check out, a few in the tech tips, the last is Geezer's web page which also has T-shooting info!

      XJ100 Charging system AGAIN

I just don't get it, I've replaced the reg/rec, stator, and rotor.

I've checked over everything I can think of.
Ive read all the tech tips and offsite tips.

      I'm stumped!!!

the XJ1100 computerized display doesn't initiate, it has no voltage to it or something, lights come on, it starts and runs etc.

When my reg rec went out last time, even tho the Tac didnt work, the computer display at least had indicators and did a power on self test

this time the computer display does nothing, shows nothing.

I have continuity thru the green brown wires thru the rotor, I have voltage from the reg rec send going to the rotor.

      maybe its the switch?

        Hey Human,

I separated and then merged your previous posts from that old thread into this one so folks can see what you've done, what's been suggested, etc.!!

I'm no Electrical Guru, but it's not just continuity that you're looking for in the green brown wires, but a certain amount of resistance. According to the manual, ~4.0 ohms is what you want to see thru the green/brown wires. And 0.4 ohms thru the white to white wires!

The computer display has a brown wire runnng to it that is a hot wire for error lights, and a white/red wire which I think is the main power line for the CPU!? Jerry is our XJ guru, and Randy is one of our Elect. Guru's, along with Geezer. They and others may be able to provide more diagnostic steps.

          posthuman,

I don't mean to hijack your post, but I have one of the same problems as you...

I too lost the display on my XJ. I don't have a clue where to start to troubleshoot it. As I recall, it started to get dimmer and has simply faded over time rather than just suddenly going off one day.

          Any advice?

          Jon

Hepcat: that sounds like a display issue itself, check the voltage to the display, check for moisture

mine just went dead when the TAC died, my bike is DEAD untill I fix this.

            replaced:
            rotor
            stator
            reg/rec
            checked wires

2 red wires to reg/rec has voltage from the switch

white wire splice off from the stator to the tac has continuity

resistance And 0.4 ohms thru the white to white wires,
4.0 ohms thru the green/brown wires, same as if I had tested the rototr plates, so the brushes are contacting the rotor.

3 black wires attached to the reg/rec are grounded

attached a voltmeter to one of the white wires out of the stator and it does produce some small current when the bike runs, but not much.
