I got one from Bob Jones at this address, about 2 years ago.
http://www.merriamcycle.com/xs-11-heaven.html
Johnny-on-the-spot; zoomed it right to me. Seemed like I'd had
difficulty finding one at the time. He 'splained to me > couldn't get a core by itself, or the housing by itself. Had to get 'em "together", which was fine with me. He's got both kinds; Standard and Special having different end of bottom of the housing. At the time I think I paid around $21.JCarltonRiggs

Hi Dennyz,
I got a speedo cable from Dennis Kirk this April. $15.99. If you are in the continental US you won't have to pay another $15 to get it shipped.
BTW if your speedo cable snapped in use, check if your speedo head still turns freely.
I didn't check and my speedo was all stiff and the spare lasted all of 17KM before it twisted off as well and that's when I had to buy a new one. Lucky I had a spare instrument too.Fred Hill, S'toon

TopCat>you're a prize! that's what I've not been able to find. I thought I had already checked with PNM.
FYI the pad kit you're showing will work for either side for the Standard; takes 2 separate kits for the Special~~different kit for each side, cuz of the way the pads are "slanted"/angled. The pad kit yer showing, not only works for either side of the Standard~~but also works for both, the rear of the Standard or Special. I have been going insane looking for that screw you're showing in that kit~~have been looking for over 5 years! That screw is used on all the rear brake calipers, and both fronts of the Standard.
Both types of pads use a "sensor-shim-thing" > not shown in that kit. I need to find that. You can put 'em together without the sensor thing, but I'd prefer to have it.
(?!)>? You know > the pad area is about double on the Special front, over the Standard.JCarltonRiggs

Hi Oldnortonrider,
I made a couple of the pad retaining screws for my bike from stainless Allen screws. I cut 'em off to the right length, screwed on a couple of nuts, then put 'em in the chuck of my drill - thread end showing.
Clamped the drill in the vice, and used it as a "lathe" so I could remove the thread off of the end with a file. I took it slow, and kept stopping to check the size with a vernier.
When I removed the nuts, it cleaned any burrs off the end of the thread, so it didn't damage the ally caliper when I fitted it.
It is shiny, won't seize or corrode, cost next to nothing, and took about 10 minutes to make; It makes me grin every time I spot it........ I guess I am just easily amused!!
Another secret gone!

Hey, AlanB> that is neat; yer not gonna believe this> I started to
do exactly that~~exactly the same thing. I even bought special
Allen head screws> metric thread> the exact length that I knew would even work better than the original. Before I got the screws and the drill in the vice, I finally thoughtl about the pads
on the front of a Standard that I use for parts. Voila!! there wuz my screws! hid on the back of those Standard calipers!
That picture you posted on the "aftermarket rim" thread> what size is that tire. I'm going to ask you some more questions about that rear end. heh-heh.
And furthermore! since you reside where yer at> I'll tell you a little
story about "Mike Hailwood"; circa 1962> that I personally observed. (?)~you remember "the name '"Mike Hailwood' "....??
..........where's the "Isle of Man" from you?JCarltonRiggs

Hi Oldnortonrider,
Isle of Man is a couple of hours ride and a four-hour ferry crossing from here; I went to the TT three times in the early 80s (started the year after Mike stopped going.......) and to the Manx GP later that decade.
Mate of mine bought (and blew up, then rebuilt and crashed.....) the Rickman/Ducati which Sports motorcycles were racing themselves during the time they were building Mikes' TT bikes.
The rim is a 4:00x17 from a Yamaha Diversion 900, fitted into a modded (braced) XS11 arm. Tyre is a 150/70x17. I think there might be room for a 160.
What you see is a "final" mock-up; I am still working out the details of the brake and some other bits. Once it is all done, I will write it up and post it, as I have with the other big mods on the bike.
AlanBIf it ain't broke, modify it!
