    Stupid Question

    got new coils from MikesXS, don't need the ballast resistor.....

    will just unplugging it do the trick or do I need to do something else??????????????

    I am certainly no electrical wizard bit I do think you will have to close the circuit when you remove the resistor.

      Mike is correct. When you remove the resistor, just plug the two red/white leads together. Otherwise, no sparky.

      P.S. Are you sure you don't need the ballast resistor? Excuse me for asking, but I've lost track of these coil swap threads! Too damn many of them!

          According to that, it's confusing. Talks about different years, but the basic fact is all of our bikes need 3-ohms on the coil primaries. The early 78-79 do it with a 1.5-Ohm coil and a 1.5 Ohm resistor.

          The later 80 and up do it with 3-Ohm coils, no resistor.


          So if the Mike'sXS coils are 3 Ohm, GREAT!

          If they're 1.5 Ohm, keep your resistor or you'll burn out your TCI.

              Here's the instruction sheet I got with my 1.5 ohm dynacoils, they've been running good for years with no ballast resistor and no spark cap resistors

                  ?? I thought the 81's did away with the ballast resistor but all earlier bikes needed them.?
