Ive had this electrical problem for over 12 months,
wat was happening, I would blow the 30 amp
blinker fuse, this was very intermittent, so i usually got away with replacing the fuse and wouldnt have any further problems until a few months would pass by, i thought this was caused by me replacing the front blinkers and 1 of the wires shorting out, anyway the fuse blue again, so i disconnected the front blinkers
hoping this would solve my problem, well 10 min later the fuse blew again, it had actually blown 4 times this past weekend, I couldnt find where the short was coming from, btw when the fuse did blow all sorts of electrical problems occured, the tacho bounced all over the place, the brake lights didnt work, the pilot lights didnt work, the bike would start in gear, and when i did apply either brake lights, flick it in neutral or tried to use blinkers the tacho would die and the neutral light would light but very dull, like a poor earth. Anyway i got to the stage where i couldnt figure it out so i stuck a wire where the fuse would go, sumthing i wouldnt normally reccomend, and began looking for either smoke or hot wires both of which i couldnt see or find, anyway i began to clean sum oil from the front rocker cover when i bumped a wire, sparks errupted and i blew the main ignition fuse as i still had the thick wire inplace of the blinker fuse. Lucky nothing melted.
I had finally found my problem, ages ago I broke off the bracket 2 one of the horns so i disconnected it, the wires were insulated but the tips were exposed enuff that if they hit the rocker cover they would short out, both horn wires are live when ignition is on. So Ive just taped up the tips and problem was solved
Sorry for the drawn out thread,
This problem had caused me so much grief lately that
Im just so happy I was able 2 find the cause and thought id share my tale.
