smokey on start up

Rode the bike to work today, and when i went out to start it MAN did it blow crazy amount of exhaust fumes im talking a ton seems like it was coming more out the left then the right. To make it worse I park in a parking garage and i felt really stupid. It didnt do it in the morning. What could cause this?

Depends on what color the smoke was...but could be a stuck float if the color wasn't blue.

Did you change the oil recently? May have overfilled. Looking at the simple reason first.

Changed the oil about a month ago. Even if it was over filled shouldnt it do it even in the morning on first start up? I know the oil is perfect because I measured it before i put it in.

I'd pull the bottom of the air box and see if there's oil in there....there's a breather tube that connects to the top of the air box. Not sure why it would do it...but I'd check that first.

means leaky valve stem seals,
another way of checking valve stem seals,
if it blows blue smoke under deceleration.
u said the bike was in a car park,
could it have been knocked over?
also is it still doing it
or has it cleared itself.

It clears it's self up after about 1 min. But man does it smoke in that one min. It wasnt knocked over either and it doesent do it all the time.

but is it doing it consistently on each start up
after its been sitting 4 a while.

No it doesnt. Thats the weird part. Didnt do it Monday morning but it did it monday evening. Didnt do it today either.

Do you use the side stand or center stand when you park it?

I've seen this happen with my bike too. I've wondered if it's a combination of leaking valve seals and the position of the cams when I last shut it off.

I've never had the problem with the 11...my old Supra had it though...was able to change them out without pulling the head. Not sure if can be done that way on an 11 though....Maybe easier to pull the head anyway.

And actually Drag...that would make sense..If you where parked on the side stand and the let's say the #1 intake seal was leaking and it was open all the way from the cam....quite a bit of oil gets in that area and could leak down into the cylinder.

Makes sense. I do use the side stand.
