Can anyone tell Me why you can't put a trailer hitch on an XS 11. Or has some one done this
    81 SH (SHotgun Special)
    110 mains
    idle jets 2.5 turns
    floats at 24mm

    "Let's get hitched..."

    I believe Jerry has one.

Hi Prom. I don't want to pull a trailer, but want the hitch to mount flags on. I belong to the Patroit Gaurd Riders and fly 3'X5' flags. There would be 3 flags the US flag a POW-MIA flag and the PGR flag. It would not be much weight. I ride an 81 special and any help on a design and mounting points would be appreciated. I have a welder and am good at fabricating but don't want to build a better mouse trap if someone has already made one.

        Hey Trapper,

Bruce Gerkin had a special tube mounted to his special so that he could also fly a very large American flag during a rally run.

I would think with a welder, you could get some steel tubing and plate/angle iron and weld up a 3 way bracket that you could bolt onto the seat mounting bolts and lower frame rail bolts to support it adequately. They may not weigh much, but they'll still have a lot of stress induced by wind resistance!

But has been said, but I think it was SKIDS that showed about making a trailer hitch for the XS11, check the tech tips, I'll try to find the link and post it here!

        PS,

Yes, Jerry had the "Trailer" tip, but Skids had the hitch!

Thanks T.C. I have the samsonite hard bags. I do have one mount on one side of the seat but with a rider it won't work for more flags. that is why I want a hitch. I looked at the one skids made and think I can make that work.

On my Shadow, the hitch was made of 1 1/4" muffler pipe, bent to do a 180 behind the back tire, flattened at the ends and bolted through the rear footpeg mounts. The shop welded a flat piece of steel on top to have a place to drill the hole for the ball.

There were then two pieces of flat steel that were welded to the muffler pipe about 2/3 of the way towards the back, and then bolted to the upper shock mounts.

All in all a pretty simple system.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

              stress induced by wind resistance!
I was gonna comment on that too, T.C.
Davestrike lost his flag somewhere on the ride to Mt. St. Helens.

I have my single flag pole 3 point mounted and have an eye bolt in the pole about 1 1/2 feet up and tie it down to the bags on each side. With the PGR we can have anywhere from 10 to 200 bikes so flags falling of is a no no. I have tested mine up to 85 mps did I say that.

                      My hitch write-up is at:
                      http://idisk.mac.com/jerryfields/Pub...l/default.html

Not all that great a piece; I wrote it several years ago.
Have put over 10K on this hitch, most recent was 2,600 miles (towing miles) to Olympia and back for DennyZ's rally this month.

Would think that for just mounting flags and such a bracket attached to a top shock mount, or rear footpeg set, would be all you need.
