  • Weird noise

I have had this problem since I got the bike running and am wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be. At 3600 rpm I have sort of a rattling / buzzing noise that seems to come from the clutch area. It does not matter if the bike is hot or cold, it also does not matter if it is in gear or what gear it is in. The bike has 12000 miles on it and the clutch plates looked good when I had it apart. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

are you sure its coming from the clutch area? sounds like a main bearing issue to me.

yeah, definately coming from that side of the engine anyway. Would a main bearing or any bearing) only make noise at a certain RPM?

at least thats what it did on a kids car in auto class a few years back. it would only knock at like a certain rpm. turned out the main bearings were shot from running high rpms too long.

If you've still got them, check the heat shields for loose or missing bolts. Check the header flanges on #3 and 4. Check where the headers fit to the collectors, then the rest of the exhaust system to the end. I'm think it is something loose inthe exaust system that is resonating at 3600.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It was the heat shields. Took them off and the noise went away. What a relief, I was having nightmares about having to tear the engine down. Once again, I appreciate the help.
