Metzeler Lasertec Tires

It's time to put new rubber on my 1980 XS1100G with the 19" rims in front and 17" in the rear. I have been satisfied with Metzeler tires on my other bikes and I want to use them on my XS.

I would like to use the ME880's but they are not available in my size. Metzeler Lasertec tires are available in the proper size for my XS. Has anyone ever used this style?

Gary , the guy who bought my XS loves them, said it improved handling greatly compared to the Bridgestone Spitfire 2's he had before .

I've used Metzeler and liked them, but they are pricey.

I just ordered a set of Dunlop 404's.

2/3 the mileage of the E3, but 1/2 the cost.

I'm having a hard time choosing . Bridgestone BT-45. I see the Spitfire mentioned . My friend (MaximX)also loves his Lazertecs . I need new rubber but cant spend a fortune Dunlop 404's look good and are cheap .

Metzeler Lasertec Tires

Here in El Paso there are a lot of old cars from Mexico and from around the city that spew oil all over the roads. When it rains which is not often, the roads are very slick.

I prefer to invest in good tires with a good reputation for traction and save on something else..

What I like to do is put a softer compound on the front.

I find that the front tires often don't wear out, they start to cup after a while, and we end up replacing them even though they still have lots of tread.

I put the Metzler Marathon on the back of my Shadow and one of the harder sport tires (2 compounds softer) on the front.

What it does is the softer front gives a lot more traction, on the front, for braking cornering etc. With the combo I had I had to replace the front every other time I replaced the rear.

I'd rather wear the tire out, than just have it cup.

Metzeler = Velcro

On my '80 Special, I run the Lasertec 33 on the front and the Lasertec on the rear, and boy howdy do these tires stick like velcro to the pavement here in Texas!

They grip so well that my "chicken strip" is about 1/16" from the tread shoulder!

Not many non sportbikes can hang with me in the twisties 'cause they break grip, or can't lean over as far as I can.

I have always used Metzelers with great success.

Of course, I have progressive springs and shocks, and the TKat fork brace to round out the handling.

I'm running Laserteks and am very happy with them! after the rally run to St. Helens, my chicken strip is down to less than 1/2 inch. Of course I'm still getting my feel in the twisties, this is my first real streetbike after all.

Got Lasertechs on front and rear right now. Have been running Metzlers for 10 years now without any problems whatsoever. Mileage is OK on them too. I feel they are worth the $.
