  • Iridium plugs

Was wondering if anyone else was using iridium plugs. I thought they might be just a lot of hype...NOT! Since putting them in the bike will even start without choke. The throttle response is great! And the MPG went from 39-41 to 42-44. Last tank I actually got 48MPG...holy #$%@! And it looks like they'll go 30K miles! I'd even bet they give a couple more HP. The bad news is they cost $10-$15 a piece....oh well...I paid it.

    Iridium???

Guess that's what they use when the dilithium crystals run low?

MY Rat Rod could use ANY type of boost LOL..although I'm already impressed with performance at the current Rat level...I'd always be willing to grab more mileage.

      Could be!

The tips are super tiny..guess that's the iridium part. Hope they're not radio active!

              plugs on ebay

              item number 7930016312

this item lists four of the iw20 for 39.99US plus shipping. Save me a set.

Do you have to do any mods to use these plugs? My standard has the two normal plugs on the outside and then the two on the inside where you have to remove the larger contact to allow access to the small threaded contact underneath for the carb boot.

              Do these do that?

Sounds like great mileage. At 70000k mine could use a boost.

                I just ordered a set

On the strength of what I've seen here, I orded a set of 4 NKG BPR6EIX Iridium plugs from a mob in Melbourne. Only cost AU$57.60 delivered. They will post overseas. Their website is http://www.performancelub.com/NGK%20pricelist.htm if anyone's interested.

I'll let you know how they go in my bike just as soon as I get time to put it back together.

On a special you only need to take off the large top connector and expose the smaller threaded part...simple.

I got your cross reference right here!

                      Hey Jesse,

Okay, went to NGK site, put in a search for BP6ES, and then had their site display ALL VEHICLES that use that plug!

Found several, picked the newest year models possible ie.:
                      '80 Fiat Spider 124
'87 Audi Coupe GT 2.2LL5 KX
                      '89 Alfa Romeo Milan Gold 2.5L V6
                      '86 Maserati Quattroporte 4.9L V8
                      '81 MG MGB 1.8L L4
                      '86 Renault R5 GTL 2.2LL4
                      '86 Saab 900 2.0L L4
                      '93 VW Cabriolet 1.8LL4 2H
                      '84 Volvo 242 GLT 2.1L L4 B21FT

Then jumped to the bolded one above, the VW since it was the newest year!

Then went to the BOSCH site, and did a search for that vehicle, spark plugs, and BINGO:

                      Plat. Plus #4016
                      Plat+4 #4477
                      Plat+2 #4310

                      There you go!
                      T.C.

PS I can't find info on the style of plug cap needed, the wide type or the narrow screw type, or if their caps will unscrew to expose the threaded tip?! Just ask to look at them first!

PPS I just added these to the list of plugs in the tech tips in the Maintanence/electrical section!

                        Iridium rocks

Napa had them on sale for 9.99 recently and I too no longer use the choke . Definately an improvement.

                              That's them!

I just hope they're as good as they (NKG) claim. I like the longevity and the improved mpg but I'll just have to wait and see.
