  • Gauge shroud, cover whatever it's called!

I've seen, on several decked out XS's, a cover, or shroud, or thingie that goes on top the speedo/tach, I assume to keep the light from the dash off the back of the windshield.

Was wondering if this was part of the original Venture package, or is it an aftermarket item?

Ken, I noticed that both your xs's had them. when you were out here.

Yup, that shroud also cuts down the glare on the instruments in bright light. Tsunami came with one when I bought it. The one for Sheila's bike, I found on the internet but I can't remember where. I believe this was standard equipment on that Trans-Canada or Venturer model. They are a bit hard to find.

I think it looks pretty goofy, but I can certainly understand why it's there. I remember the glare off my gauges glaring off the back of my windshield on the shadow.

I made one out of a black plastic binder (that holds papers for kids at school), cost $1. I cut it to the size/shape I wanted and attached with black electrical tape. Worked fine till I found the real thing on Ebay.

I shot my lenses with that tail light black out I used the light smoke so the gauges are always a smoke color and the glare does not come up on the new windshield. Plus they look kind of cool. It comes spray on or stick on. I did the spray I had some laying around.

Actually, now that I have the fairing on, the Cyclesound unit (tapedeck) sticks out way over the gauges very much like the shroud thing.
