  • Warped Front Rotors?

    Any of you ever have problems with the front rotor warping? Just today I noticed a wee bit of throbbing on the front brake handle that slowed as the bike slowed.

    I had that problem, on my VT1100C Shadow, for 14 years.

    The PO must have hit them too hard, or whatever, as the front rotor(s) were slightly warped.

    I checked into new rotors, and Icould have bought Mars, cheaper, so I just drove with them. The only time they were noticeable was when slowing down, slowly, at speeds less than 20mph. Under moderate to heavy braking, or braking from highway speeds it wasn't noticeable.

    Once I knew what it was, and got used to it, it was never a problem. Pretend you have Anti-lock brakes!

    I have tried to find anyplace that will resurface my rotors, but car shops won't touch them, and bike shops look at me like I asked to borrow the Starship.

    I have another thread here where we were discussing rotor turning, and as near as I can tell, no one does it. They just slap new pads on teh old rotors, which goes against all of my brake training.
    Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

      It's pretty hard to warp stock rotors. I've never heard of it on an xs11. Try this for kicks;
      Take your calipers loose and rough up the surface of the pads with say 150 sandpaper. See if that helps..... Been there.

        It may be hard to do, but they can warp. I had to replace a warped front rotor on on SWMBO's 'H. Right now, it's got a warped rear rotor that really should be changed. A few years back, Black Ice had a cracked rotor when I got it.

          I had the same feeling on my latest project. It was caused by brakefluid on one of the discs from a leaking caliper gasket. Maybe?
