      I have done this repair and it can definately be done without splitting the cases. For me it was easy getting the gears out. Getting them back in was a major pain though. Somewhere in the tech section, someone posted that it was easier to turn the bike upside down and then do the repair. If I need to do this again, that is what I am planning to do. Shouldn't be too hard if you have help.

        can 1st be replaced as well in bike , i'm guessing the entire counter shaft comes out to replace 2nd , ????

            It's just so easy to pull the engines on these, I don't understand why you'd risk tearing up stuff on the bike and rigging things up to flip them. Just different ways of skinning cats I guess.
