  • Clutch not releasing again

This happened last fall and got it adequately adjusted at that time even though I've always had some kind of weird mental block about just how the clutch operates
I did the adjustment behind the cover, then at the lever, where it had pretty much no more adjustment left. Has worked ok until this week, including a long trip south. Back wheel will now not stop spinning.
TC suggested that the cable may be stretched?
    Any other thoughts or advise??

      clutch cable

TC's right! a lot of clutch and transmission problems can be traced to the a stretched cable. My bike would sometimes jump out of first gear just after roll off ,I thought I had a ghost in the tranny. It was just the cable. Before you do any thing else check your cable, a lack of adjustment should be a dead give away.

Is there any way to fix a stretched cable?

          Not easily or really,

It's usually stretching near the ends with the press on fittings for the levers. IF they are kept properly lubricated, then they don't have to fight the entire cable resistance, just the end that they are actuating, but with rust/corrosion, etc, they get stiff, and then you pull on the lever, and the cables stretch out from the fitting, or just stretch beyond their tensile strength!

          Replacements are easily obtained! T.C.
