    Hello forum,

A question for all of you knowledgeable ones.

I was looking at a parts bike that is an 80G. I may be able to get the bike for about 200. Will most of the parts work on my 79F?

I am interested in the brakes, exhaust, forks, carbs. What are the major differences between a 79F and 80G. Would this be a good price for a parts bike? I am told the engine works well but the bike is salvage.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, nearly everything. I am thinking that the location of the black box and config of the rear fender and seat are the main differences. There might be a diode for the headlight relay built into the harness of the G. The footpeg bracket plates are probably different, so you might have to make a modification to use the pipes. I had to do that when I put 81H ipirs onto the 78E.

brakes same, exhaust same, carbs bs-34 mikuni 78/79 are different than 80/81 bs-34 mikuni so parts will not interchange but the carbs will swap out and work on either bike. Sidecovers may not interchange. Most likely the electrical stuff is the same but you may find the connectors on some may be different, just have you use you plug ins and splice them into other harness if swapping harness. andreas

          rman,
For $200, buy it. You can use almost everything from the bike. Big difference is ignition. If you do an engine swap, keep all the ignition parts from the left side of the engine. Everything else is a bolt and go, except the TCI box, rear fender and seat.

If I could find another for $200 here I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.

At the very least, you can get your money back easily on the parts you don't need by selling them on here or Ebay.

The 80 TCI is the same as the 79, it's the 81 that's totally different, so you can use the TCI as well!
