  • three headlights for XL

    XJ/XS family,

Has anyone put a three light front headlight system on
an XJ? My lights at night are just not enough light to
foresee any road debris in time to stop. I could buy some
auxillary lights and fabricate them to work, but probally
would'nt look professional. Any information would be
very usefull to me. I didn't find any posts in the forum
    files regarding this.

    Thanks,
    dodjh

Problem with the XJ / XS electrical system is that it has about enough power to run the bike and thats it. A few people have tried to add 55w running lights, works OK as long as you are over around 3K RPM range, below that (roughly, exact number is in the mid 2k range) you are running on battery juice.

The XJ puts out a bit more power, a few amps, but the same problem persists. You would need to rig a switch in the circuit to be able to turn the other lights on and off otherwise you would drain the batery at low RPMs.

This can be done, and several people run aux lighting. For a good discussion of this topic, read this thread:
