  • timing chain adjuster

so i recently bought my bike, and i have noticed that on the timeing chain adjuster that there is a black plastic plug that was leaking oil, well now after riding the bike the plug fell out.

is there a way to get another plug form somewhere? or do you guys have any other suggestions on what to do with it? and what does the plug do?

"Plugs plug holes... that's what they do."

The plug just plugs the hole they had to drill for the plunger when the part was made. Replacement still available from Yamaha. I think my last one was seventy cents.
Some people have had success by cleaning the hole with Brakleen or similar cleaner and plugging it with Permatex, or a like silicone sealer.
On a trip, mine started to pop out, so I bent a piece of wire over it, and held it to the tensioner body with a small screw-type hose clamp.

You da' man Prom! I was a little quicker on the draw that time. Bailing wire, duct tape and the like requires more genius than my fixes. Your fix was more like McGuiver's enginuity (what was the name of that show?)
