  • Getting to work on the XS1100

Went into the mods section how toos- didn't see a few things I have been looking for topic wise.

I sold my XS1100 parts bike, and the guy wants to make it a bit of a custom- reasonable, since it is too far gone from original to really spend time and money on restoring.

WE are kinda making it a bobber- so the custom look we already know we want is already in mind.

    1) Is there a high compression sligh over-bore piston offered reasonably?

    2) Same with cams- anything out there for us?

    3) Pod filters- do they screw up the tune, or do they just need a re-jet?

    Hey Ram,

The only overbores are the Wiseco kits, two flavors, 1179 and 1196cc. The smallest one is still larger than the largest standard oversize that Yamaha offered! Kits run about $400.00 for 4 pistons, rings, wristpins, keepers, head gasket all included.

Depending on what year your cast off is, if it's a later model, then you could try to find some 78 cams to put in it. Otherwise, folks have talked about a company that rewelds and hardgrinds YOUR OEM cams into custom grinds, but you have to send your cams to them, not cheap either!

I've already responded to your PM regarding the carbs. Folks may respond or say search the threads for Indy Filters, you'll get several opinions, not all the same, some hate Indy's, others love them! Sounds like a great project, hope to see some photos!

Thanks- this dude bought the bike from me for 400 bucks. I think it is a runner. Not including tires, I think he can get on the road, looking cool, for under 1k, even wth an overbore kit!

Gonna try to avoid splitting the cases- if possible!

It did run when parked- got the plugs pulled today, and put oil in the cylinders, will poor some 3-1 type oil in it later this week, and will try to turn it over, check to see if it is siezed from setting, in about a week.

Will post a pic in a minute.
