Bear, the plug wires are permanently attached to the coils. You'd need to cut the body of the coil to get the wires out.

Save yourself the aggravation...
Buy a set of Accel Super coils and be done with it!
Twice the spark, big-fat 8.8mm, yellow wires, and towers off the coils so you can replace the wires when needed or wanted.
Part number for our bike is Accel 140403.
I shot some pics of my installation, and am putting together a tech tip with pics, so others can see how I did it.

Snip the wires off about an inch or two from the coils. They're copper strands. Twist in the new leads, you can even join graphite to copper, copper and graphite have the same resistance so says my analogue multimeter, strap the join tightly with good quality electrical tape. No probs.

Hey Skippy,
Accel are good coils, but for much less $$ he can also get the high performance ones from MikesXS.com, along with new wires and plug caps and get the equivical power/performance, IMHO!
BrownBear, see the tech tips on MODS, you'll find both the replacement new wires in old coils, and the MikesXS coils upgrade!

Yeah, that's true Top...
I just happen to get a good deal on them. I found them for $124.99 and they look really cool!
Plus, I have always had good luck with Accels in all of my old, "real" cars, back in the day.
I'm gonna go check out the MikesXS coils right now.
