It sat a long time and I did a crude carb cleaning and she runs on all four but she simply will not idle. If I set the idle screw til it idles if you leave it go the idle will slow and it'll die, and if you set it really high it will start idling even higher spontaneously but eventually slow down and die. I cleaned out and set the air screws to 2 3/4 turns out, and I am almost positive this is a carberation issue but I am not a carb master and I am at wits end! I generally just goose the throttle a lot at stops and the bike is fine, but I'd sure like it just to idle

Mark, Check for vacume leaks around the carb boots on the engine side and make sure all of the caps on the boots are sealing. They get hard from the heat and leak. Throttle shaft seals is another place where you could be leaking air. Search vacume leaks on the forum and methods for checking will be in there. You also said that you did a crude carb clean. You might need to really go thru them if you want it to idle pretty. Another thing would be to sync them with mercury sticks. Keep working on them they will come around.wingnut

If it sat for a long time and it wont idle, the pilot circuit probably needs to be cleaned of the varnish that is in there from stale fuel.
Best way to do that is to just bite the bullet, pull the carbs and get started.Mike Giroir

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.
