ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO I PICKED UP A XS11 SECA. I CANT SEEM TO FIND ANY THING ON IT. I TOLD OUR LOCAL YAMY SHOP ABOUT IT AND HE SAID THEY DIDNT LIST IT. I TOOK IT OVER AND SHOWED IT TO HIM AND HE WAS AMAISED AT WHAT I HAD. I'M THINKING THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN FROME ANOTHER COUNTRY? DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGESTIONS. IT DOES HAVE SOME LITTLE GOODYS LIKE A CAFE RACER. LIKE SET BACK RIDER PEGS. THANKS TOM

Yamaha didn't use the "SECA" name until the 80's, IIRC. The first XS1100 for production was produced in August, 1977 as a 1978 model. Check the serial number on the frame, and the engine to see if they match. If you go to the MAIN page, xs11.com, you can look up the serial numbers to see what year of machine you have. The first two years, ALL US bikes started with 2H7, some of the bikes from other parts of the world had a different prefix on the serial numbers.

IIRC, even in the '80s the Seca (available in 400cc and up) was a variation in styling, but also had a 6-speed transmission instead of the standard 5-speed. (At least this is true in the smaller bikes like the 400cc twins.) As far as I know a Seca version was never offered in the XS1100 - XJ1100 series in any year.

Does it look something like this?

If so, then it could be an imported MARTINI from EUROPE!?

My guess would be it is a 650 or 750 Seca.

This is a 650. Note the set-back pegs and forward shifter.

Below is a 'rat bike' 750:

Unless you check the VIN, from a distance they both look XS11-ish.

In '82 Yamaha had an XJ 750 Seca. Link to a large photo is here:
          '82 XJ 750 Seca

There were also turbo versions of the Seca sold in the US:

This happens to be an '82 650 turbo. Some versions, plus all the turbo models, were sold with a fairing.

In any event, checking the VIN is the only way to really tell what you have.

They also sold a 900 Seca. Not sure of the years. I put over a 100K on my 650 Seca. The 650 Seca was sold for only one year and only came as a bare bike. Great bike.

Had not checked eBay for a while, there was a listing for an '82 XJ1100. Guy had included a photo of the model/serial number plate on the frame. Turned out it was an '82 XJ al right, but a 650.....5V2 model number.

Listing expired early today, last bid I saw (no title but running, pick up only in Missouri) was $36.00 with 11 minutes left. Someone expecting to get an XJ1100 is going to be very disappointed.

Jerry, I saw that listing last week and emailed the seller that what he had was not an XJ1100J. I pointed out all the differences I could see and told him the serial # was not for an XJ1100, or even an XS.

He emailed me back and thanked me and said he would find out what it was and correct the listing.

I never checked again, but your right, someone is going to be very disappointed.
I know I was when I looked at the picture.

Hmmm...only one post from this person and he's prefaced it with a winking smiley.

Guy's, I think you've been the victim of a practical joke.
