I have read through the spooge hole sleaning articles for the xs11, but the resevoir on my XJ is solidly attached to the handlebars, not held in an "o"ring like the article explains.. am i not looking in the right place? is there a different way of getting at the spooge hole on the XJ?> i just got all my title, plates, and insurance done and a helmet, so I'm hoping to fix this and ride to work tomorrow, any help is always appreciated.

Just remove the old fluid with a turkey baster or similar. It's been a while since I've done mine, but if you look closely, there will be a very small hole that needs to be cleaned with a small piece of wire. If you're unsure of which one, very carefully apply a tiny bit of pressure to your brake handle and when you release, fluid will come back out of the spooge hole.... unless it's completely clogged. If you apply too much brake pressure, when you release the handle it will shoot brake fluid pretty forcefully all over the place. If the front is still hanging up, it may be the caliper sticking. If all else fails on the caliper, this guy always has one listed on Ebay.

Here is a photo of the XJ front master clinder with top off and fluid removed:
The spooge hole is the tiny dish-shaped indention just above the mail hole that lets fluid into the plunger:
Basically you remove the brake line and clean the spooge hole with the MC still in the bike. Remember to squirt some brake fluid through both holes if you can to help flush out any particles you may dislodge.Jerry Fields

Shuld add...
MC also has a styrofoam float in it as the XJ monitors fluid level in both front and rear Master cylinders. Top photo is with float removed; 1 Phillips head screw holds it in place and it will pop out. The black wire you see in the top photo, right side, is the wire for this float.
Clean the base mounting surface on both the float and the MC before you reinstall the float and you will not have a leak.Jerry Fields
