Carb model difference

Are the mikuni BS34-111 carbs interchangeable between models with just minor modifications to jets etc. ? Or is there much more to it? I'm asking because I own a 79 special and a local guy is parting out his 81..I would like to make him an offer for the carb set so that I could get some "off-line" practice at cleaning, modifying and working with the carb assemblies without every task risking putting my bike out of action.
What's the story?
