  • powder coat question?

Can the lower fork sliders be powder coated? I have a set torn down and I am cleaning them up. I would like to beadblast them and then powder coat them. I have heard that structural items like aluminum rims and such should not be power coated because the heat involved in the powder coating process can weaken aluminum. I do not know if this is true or not? Temperatures above 400 degree's on aluminum is suppose to cause changes in the structure of the aluminum making it brittle. Can anyone verify this??? I would like the fork sliders to look good but do not want to create a unsafe condition. Thanks!!

I don't think that all powder coat needs to be baked at high temperatures. I thought some aluminum bike frames came powdercoated (?)

Eastwood makes some nice starter kits and their powders cure at about 350 degrees.

Not sure how to put a link in a post but they have a video on their website.
