Took the fairing off yesterday, & a 2" x 3" piece including the left front mounting hole fell off. Don't know what the P. O. used, but there's remnants of it on both mating surfaces. I'm not sure I can clean it good enough to get a good bond. In the meantime, anybody have a decent headlight bucket & signals for a "79 special?

You can buy fiberglass fabric at most auto parts or marine stores. Look in the body repair sections along side the fiberglass resin system. Just make sure to sand/abrade the surface you plan on bonding to to get a good bond.Past Rides:

A couple years ago, I was behind a car that moved to a left turn lane and stopped to turn left, I thought. suddenly he turned right , I gunned it and got past him at his right front fender, but had to hit a curb and sidewalk to clear the road, broke my faring at the left front faring mount bolt. I took two thick metal pieces, about 1/16 thick long enough to cover the crack, drilled some holes, and put some short bolts thru, and squeezed the faring back together and haven't had any problems since. also I made sure the metal pieces were bolted to the front left mounting bolt. I purchased the Plastic Welder from Harbor Freight last week and did a crack repair with it. the tool is like a soldering iron that connects to an air compressor and it blow hot (600F) air out the nozzle. My Pacificao faring has a black inside and yellowis exterior shell. While the Exterior is ABS, the interior was not.
In short you can heat the fairing and tack fuse the seams of the crack and then using filler plastic rod of the same plastic type, you can fill the crack and voids. You are to use basic welding techniques for metal (bevel the edges of the crack and fill the seam with the filler rod). It does get hot and fuses things together, but I had trouble making it pretty. It takes off any paint withinan inch or twoof the heated area, so be prepared from some touch up work. So I overfilled the spots and then files/dremmeled them flat. Seems to be a strong repair. Overcoated with matching paint and will reinstall tonight.
The tool cost about $45 while added rods cost another $6, so for the cost of about $50, I can now fix many broken plastic parts on tools and appliances that would have required other specialize glues..Past Rides:
