I have a tinny, intermitent rattleing that also causes popping in exhaust on deceleration at the same time. Accelererating from lower rpms, does the same thing, almost like an exhaust leak. It does this only after warmed up at operating temp. Have replaced all exhausts gaskets at head with OEM ones and replaced cross-over and #2 and #3 also with OEM replacements. Had fractures on both pipes where they notoriously break just before muffler weld...........re-welded and painted with high-temp aluminum. Sound is same as when you would tap on ignition cover with a wrench. Re-set cam chain slack adjuster as it was time, so engine itself is very quiet with absolutely no valve train noise(almost too quiet compared to others I've heard). I know I'm missing something here that when resolved will be a simple fix, so any help would be appreciated, as it's got me dumd-founded so far.

Funny you should mention timing cover! First thing that comes to mind is having the vacuum advance hose connected to the wrong port...it should be on the #2 carb BODY, not the intake manifold port. Otherwise, you get this occilating rattle as the vacuum pulses are too strong for the vacuum diaphragm=rattle!? JAT!
