    Reg/Rect info!

    1J7-81970-60-00 RECTIFIER ASS'Y 1

Below is the #'s listed for the "D" model, and it also has a different style plug vs.
    the above item.
    1T4-81960-92-00 RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASS'Y (1T4-81960-91)

Well, bust my britches, here's the Rec/Reg for the 78E
    1T4-81960-A0-00 RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASS'Y (1T4-81960-92)

IT's close, but not exactly the same. Geezer might be able to tell you whether it
    will work or not?

BTW, you think that Geezer's Reg/Rect is salty, take a look at BikeBandit(OEM)
    4: RECTIFIER/REG ASY 13130-001 $204.01 for 80G!

And here's PNM's "Universal Unit" and it doesn't even come with any plugs!?
    UNIVERSAL RECTIFIER / REGULATOR
Fits XS750 - XS1100 For all 3-phase permanent magnet alternators. Replaces stock units. Regulates AC output voltage and rectifies DC charging current. 5 wire unit w/ 10" lead wires NOTICE: Please see return policy

    $95.00US EA. Part#24-2032
So...you can see at these prices, why "we" endorse Geezer's unit, lifetime guarantee (his...not the unit's ) and with more robust internals to give stronger lower rpm power!

Need to pick some brains...what's going on

I stole the rectifier (from the 78 xs7502d) AKA 'little brother'

        installed on the '11'

the headlight still didn't come on ......but.....

if I unplug the rect then replug.....
        the headlight will come on.....
        even if I kill it b4 I unplug/replug

        This obviously isn't correct......
but WHY will it come on only after it's plugged back in

Maybe, just maybe the tach wasn't working last weekend...
it wasn't just a few minutes ago...
now it is....don't know why it started to work

all I have right now is a multimeter, not a test light
can I test with a meter????????????

OK NOW HANG ON A MINUTE.....

the alternator was unplugged, from behind the fuse box...
I unplugged it to test the stator...forgot to plug it back in,

            still nothing work's,
didn't look to see if tach was still working or not,
2 bad rectifiers, and 2 bad RLU's, what would those odds be???

            something in the windings?
hope not but.....what else could it be?

              Hey Renegade,

As I've stated before, I'm no electrical Guru, Randy and several others are more knowledgeable than I. I don't know if Randy has had any experience with the 750 reg/rect, or Geezer for that matter? SO....can't tell you what's happening with regards to headlight coming on only after replugging it in?

Yes, you can use the multimeter like a test light, in the VDC setting, so if you've got current readings then the circuit is working. IS your ALT cranking out the volts above 14 at 2500 rpm?

Bad diode inside the harness? Try running your own wires.

What do you mean 'bad diode'?????
and run my own wires from where to where?????

                      Re: Hey SKIDS...

As I reread the threads, I think you should forget my comment. I cant follow what was happening when the light worked or didn't, or whether the disconnected clip had a play in it. (Its late here for me) Yes, later models have a diode, but yours must be working if you get light sometimes. I do know that you have to push a minimum current through a diode to make it work.
