  • can I jump start?????

I am all moved in to the new house and am going to bring up the XS tommorow. It is sitting in a garage 22 miles away. The battery is down and I have not gotten a chance to put it on the charger today. Can I just jump it from the car battery tommorow, or should I put in on the charger tommorow and wait another day to bring it up to the new house. I plan on putting a new battery in it and cleaning the carbs real good once I get it up to the new house. I will post some pics of the garage for you all soon!!!

You can jump it from the car, just make sure the car is not running. I have done it a lot in the past with no trouble at all.

On the Yosemite ride LoHo's Suburban battery went dead and he jump-started it with his XS1100.

So long as he didn't try to tow start it with the XS

I suppose it depends on how dead the battery is. Jumpstarting is good in a pinch, but if you have the opportunity to charge it with a charger that'll be more reliable. Last time I killed the battery at work I jumped it and it started fine, but I stalled out at a stoplight and was dead in the water. Had to call SWMBO to come jump it. Be sure to take your cables with you and if you can have a support vehicle follow until you've ridden at good revs for about an hour or so.

              Why not charge it overnight?

yea had her running like a top, then she sat for a while because of a new job that I could not ride to, a kid that needed daddy time and many other excuses. Then I moved her to my grandad's garage while we were selling the house. I know, long story. I will get her back in shape though. If only I would have done the proper measures before I put her away.......

malber, I made it here to the house. I did have a few issues but all in all it was OK. I did not charge overnight simply b/c of the PITA factor involved in multiple trips to the other place. PITA to get to. I was by there the other day and forgot to take the charger with me. stupid. Could have been letting it sit for days instead of this jumping stuff. But I am planning on a new battery anyway. She was running pretty rough on the way home. About a 19 or 20 mile trip. She just cut out once on the expressway and had to re-jump her. (not fun). I think that she ran out of gas and I did not get the reserve on quick enough. I now have her nestled away in fron of my Honda in the new garage. She does not know how to act with all of this garage time all of the sudden. She has spent most of her life under my carport since I have owned her. As soon as I get the wifey satisfied with all of this painting and moving in stuff I will pull and clean the carbs and put in a new battery. Then lean and polish and paint for about a week straight!!!!

Good Luck with that one! Just don't forget to tell her there has to be PLENTY of dry time 'tween coats. then you can sneek off to xs land!
