TopCat My XS SG you said to check for leaks. It seems to weep fuel running down the piece of metal that connects the carbs together,on the boot side.It only does this when its on.Where on the octy would a leak develop? All fuel lines are on and tight.

    Hey OldYam,

The Octy has a rubber diaphragm and can leak from within, and then out thru a vent hole in the Octy housing!? You say the leak only occurs when the bike is ON, I'm assuming running. When running it's applying vacuum to the Octy to open fuel flow to the carbs. You could pull the vacuum hose off, and apply suction to it with the engine OFF, and observe for leaks! It has been posted that the replacement diaphragm in the kits don't fit properly, and a new one from Yamaha is ~$50.00! That's why I threw mine out!

Fuel hoses can form cracks in them. And also harden and leak from the nipple they are fitted onto/over!? You can take the Octy out and bypass it. As long as your petcocks are working and shutting off when you turn them to OFF, then that's all you need, just have to remember to shut them OFF, just in case your carb float valves get stuck/leak you won't have a puddle of gas on the floor or worse, in the engine from a leaky petcock!

        Hey Fred,

That's great to hear. Others have posted that the center metal portion of the replacement diaphragm was too small or too short to work properly. Info like that is what this forum is all about!

Started bike up today, unbolted tank, put a block of wood under tank where bolt goes in order to see what is leaking .Nothing leaking or unusual.Bike started normal.Waiting on seat to get done from the upholstery guy.He doesnt seem to be in a hurry to get it done.If its not done by Tuesday of next week, i told him that i will pick up the seat regardless because i am tired of waiting and i'm missing out of riding time. Also on vacation next week and want to put some mileage on the odometer.

                    Octy Diaphragm

I too fitted a new K&L octopus diaphragm (about 4,000 mile ago) no problems with it at all.
