Will A 79 xs1100 gas tank fit on a 80 special? also what other tanks will fit on the 80?

79 special will fit an 80 special. I would think a standard tank would interchange too but then you get into the issue with the fit between the gas tank and the seat.DEW

My '80 Special came with both a Special tank and a Standard tank (neither were fitted)
TI showed the Standard tank fitted the bike perfectly but it's steeper rise wouldn't let the horrible ugly KQHB aftermarket seat hook into the front tab. So I ran with the teensy Special tank, 'orrible seat + 2 gal jerrycan. Now I have a stock seat but the Standard tank has rust penetration issues so I have not bothered trying a TI with the Standard tank & my newly found stock Special seat. If I ever find a bargain Standard tank in good shape and a TI shows the Special seat won't go on with it there, I will modify the seat until it DOES go on rather than continue being a slave to that steenkin' jerrycan when I drive out of town.
