  • my butt hurts

I have a stock seat on my 80 SG and after 50 miles or so it gets pretty uncomfortable. I have heard of things that can be strapped to the seat (gel pad; sheepskin; ??) that eases the discomfort. Any suggestions? Maybe it is just my rear end.

Yeah! Mine too. Do they make a gel pad for this seat?

I've seen gel pads for bicycle seats, so probably could find something on Google or an aftermarket slip on cover.

Or you could eat lots of ice cream and fried food to add padding to the other mating surface! :-)

Let us know if/what you find.

Go to Ebay and do searches for the following, you'll find lots of stuff, some $$, some fairly cheap!

        Sheepskin rug
        Saddlegel
        Geltek
        Airhawk
        gel cushion

Changing your feet/leg positions help shift the pressure that the derriere puts on the seat. Cruise pegs!! Changing pressure points helps shift the circulation around which helps reduce the pain. Patients in nursing homes and hospitals get bed sores from where the bones are close to the surface of the skin, and constant pressure against them reduces circulation, tissues break down and sores and ulcers can develop!

You might even be able to make your own with some vinyl material from Walmart and some foam cushion, hot glue gun, etc.!

I bought a gell pad from JC Whitney. It works ok but it sits me about an inch or so higher, I didn't like that. Someday I will carve asection out of the foam and put it under the seatcover. JCW sells just the pad too.

Never tried the gel seats. I figger'ed that yes, it may be comfortable, but my boney butt would displace the gel directly underneath it, and due to the constraints of the design, gel would well up somewhere else, still providing a hard firm surface.
I bought an air-filled seat pad several years ago and wouldn't ride outside the state without it.
Covers the whole seat, but has two separate inflatable sectionsne for the rider and one for the passenger.

I have heard good things about beaded seats, similar to the car versions. I could see the point that air can get under you so you avoid swamp arse, and I have been told the beads are quite comfortable. For $15 I was going to order one and try it out, as long as I can find a black one that no one can see from a distance.

                  You think yours hurts?

Wildkat and I just got back from a trip that started Wedsnesday afternoon, and covered over 800 miles, with 400 of that coming today. We got severly rained on twice yesterday, and once today.
I wish I could find something a little more comfortable than just the stock seat, but me being 'frugal', and the fact that I don't usually ride that far, I can't justify spending that kind of money on a seat.

                    swamp arse

I found that I had the same problem and wanted to check into the possibilities of a pad . I even thought of putting a shoe gel insole in my pants but anyway ... enough about my private life .

I have a $430.00 Gel seat on my Intruder, and I found a $39.00 chunk of black sheep skin. The sheep skin does better. No hurt, no monkey butt sweat. I attached it with boot laces, and I swear it's the same as if I glued it on. If it gets wet, untie it, 5 or 6 whirls around my head, and the damn thing is dry.

For the Two cyclinder, I wouldn't ride with out it.

                      Just my two cents.

Thanks for all the good tips...

I had thought of a gel pad but I'm only 5'6" and was worried about the height issue...so I just bought a black sheepskin rug off ebay for about $38 (+$12 shipping - ouch). It's 37" x 27" and will have to be cut down some. I have sat on them before and they are comfortable. I'll let you know what my butt thinks after some ride time!

Its an expensive solution ($250), when I has Sargents redo my seat, I had them put in the firm foam inserts, and really haven't had to think about a sore butt since, well not from riding anyway.
