  • Stupid Question #73

I have talked before about how it is kind of loud when i shift, and was told that it is pretty normal for these bikes, but is there something i should be doing on a regular basis as far as greaseing a shaft or something to make sure nothing gets worn out. i just dont want a problem to arise because of me not doing something that i should be doing.....thanks again as always. -Joe

    kind of loud

Is a relative term, like how loud is loud.

Tranny parts are in the cases and are bathed with the engine oil.
Middle drive is sealed from engine oil and use hypoid 80/90 gear oil. When’s last time you checked it ?

Behind the shift cover, there is an adjustment. Shift shaft has a punch mark which aligns with a punch mark on the shift lever. If this is off probably would not shift at all.

Then there are scribe marks (lines) on the shift cam and shift lever that align when tranny is in second gear. Adjust with "eccentric screw (located below and just forward of foot shift shaft)

I've had half a dozen different engines apart and never seen one out of adjustment.
